Today (July 27, 2009) is the first official day of the government’s Cash For Clunkers Program.  One billion dollars has been allocated to get vehicles made between 1984 and 2001 off the roads.   There are three objectives for this campaign:

  1. More fuel efficient vehicles replacing the older less fuel  efficient models will reduce our dependency on foreign oil.
  2. Newer models have higher emission standards and are better for the environment.
  3. Selling more cars will be good for the economy.  This program is expected to help sell over 200,000 vehicles in  the next few weeks.

The next few weeks is the kicker.  The CARS program runs through November 1, 2009 or whenever the $1 Billion dollars allocated is gone.  Estimates range from 1 to 4 weeks before all of the money has been claimed.  The good news is this is a 4 year program and Cash for Clunkers will be back next year.  But if you want to buy a new car and take advantage of this opportunity…. you need to act now.

Bill Utter Ford in Denton has set up a special website www.fordcashforclunkers.org to explain the program to help you understand if and how you qualify.  There are links to other websites with additional information and links to the Bill Utter Ford web site where you can review all of the current inventory.    There was a rush of activity today at Bill Utter Ford.  Factory incentives at Bill Utter Ford make it possible to save up to $4,500 with the cash for clunkers rebate and up to $6,000 in factory rebates on the Ford F-150.  Combined that means a possible savings of $10,500 on an F-150 and there are great incentives on almost every other Ford model as well.

This is a great time to buy a new car and with the cash for clunkers program things just got even better.   But it won’t last long!
